Welcome to Mendon Pony Club!
- One of over 625 members clubs of the
United States Pony Clubs
- Nationwide membership over 13,000
children and young adults to age 21
- Worldwide (31 countries) membership
exceeds 130,000
- The Pony Club idea originated in
Great Britian in 1928 and was introduced into the US in 1954 by foxhunters
that wanted to provide good and inexpensive instructions for youngsters
- Pony Club's purpose is education
- Local clubs are grouped into 36
regions, each under a Regional Supervisor
- We are in the Western New York Region
(one of 18 clubs)
Mendon Pony Club
- Organized in 1960
- Membership currently growing
- MPC Officers - District Commissioner, Co-District Commissioner,
Secretary and Treasurer
- MPC is a corporation; required by National Pony Club to hold and annual
meeting of sponsors (before October 31) for the purpose of voting on Board
of Directors and Officers
- Sponsor meetings are held each month
- Junior Board Members - elected by the members to represent them on the
board
What do you need?
- English tack
- Approved ASTM-SEI helmet
- Appropriate clothing - neat and clean
- Appropriate footwear (no sneakers! Rubber boots ok for riding; hard toed
shoes needed in stable area)
- Trailer, or some means to transport the....
- Horse (not allowed are horses that are too young (under 5), ill, too
thin, or a danger to riders, other members or other horses)
By the very nature of horse activities, strong, active parental support is
an essential ingredient of a successful club. Pony Club is run by volunteers.t
- Everything that happens in Pony Club is the result of a volunteer
effort
- There are many, many ways to help out
- If you have a special skill, speak up
- Some volunteer efforts are very large and inclusive of the whole club
(hosting a Rally, Major fundraisers)
Why Fundraising?
- Dues:
- The club provides members:
- Dismounted instruction
- Mounted instruction
- Clinics and Visiting A
- Testing fees
- Rallies
- Substantial subsidy for other Pony club activities
- Miscellaneous extras (e.g. newsletter, picnic, etc.)
Ratings
- All join as unrated, then D1, D2, D3, C1, C2, C3, B, HA and A
- Each child receives a standard; that spells out exactly what they need
to know and should be able to do
- Progressive; a means of measuring progress and recognizing their level
of achievement
- Testing - all decisions regarding testing (who, when, where) are made by
the DC
- D1 and D2 can often be done during the course of a regular mounted
lesson
- D3 to C2 are offered at the club level (usually twice a year). Requires
more formal preparation
- C3 - testing is done by the region (usually twice a year)
- B, HA, A - National Examiners. Only offered in the region if there are
sufficient candidates
